My name is Mira. I was first introduced to South Asian philosophy as a child by my parents, and my first experiences with asanas were through simple, playful movements. When I was twelve, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to visit Tibet and Nepal. These experiences left a lasting impression on me and deeply influenced my path, while regular visits to India since 2006 have deepened my connection to yoga. I have been practising constantly for over 20 years and have finally found a great passion in the system of Ashtanga Yoga. I am very grateful to have been able to study with my teacher Shri R. Sharath Jois for over 10 years now. Shri R. Sharath Jois is a teacher, practitioner and lineage holder (Paramaguru) of Ashtanga Yoga in the tradition of his grandfather Shri K. Pattabhi Jois. He is the director of the Sharath Yoga Centre in Mysore, India, where I travel every year to deepen my studies.
Apart from Mysore, I have also had the honour of learning from other advanced practitioners such as Rolf Naujokat and Sharmila Desai in Goa.
In 2014 I started assisting Michael Schabort, the founder of Mysore Munich (now Ashtanga Spirit Munich). In December 2017 I received the blessing of Shri R. Sharath Jois to share the method of Ashtanga Yoga (Authorised Level II). Since then I have been trying to share what I have learnt myself in different places, substituting Mysore programmes in Koh Phangan, Mallorca, Italy and Munich. I have also had the honour of assisting Shri R. Sharath Jois several times in the main shala at the SYC in Mysore. I am very grateful to be taking over the Ashtanga Spirit Munich programme together with Arianna from 1st June 2024 and am looking forward to practising with you.

I started having a daily yoga practice in 2013. In 2015 I began to study medicine, in a city where at that time was no yoga studio. I realized I needed and wanted to have an individually fitted practice, which I could do by my own, with a fixed sequence and a method I could trust.
Thanks to my brother, I was introduced to Ashtanga Yoga.
I fell in love with the practice instantly and began dedicating all my free (and not-so-free) time to it.
In 2016, I attended my first workshop with Lino Miele. Since then, I have practiced with him in Rome, Milan, and Tuscania whenever possible.
Between 2019 and 2021, I lived in Berlin as an exchange student. There, I was introduced to the delicate and beautiful responsibility of teaching Ashtanga Yoga. I began assisting and teaching, and I haven’t stopped since.
When I returned to Italy, I had the privilege of teaching in Bologna, at the very Shala where I grew up: Bottega Ashtanga.
After finishing my medical degree, I moved to Munich.
Today, I teach at Ashtanga Spirit Munich alongside Mira. It has been one of the greatest gifts life has ever offered me. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to assist, adjust, teach, and hold space for the practitioners of this Shala - I could not have imagined it any better.
Over the years, my approach to both practice and teaching has been shaped and refined by many teachers: Lino Miele, Marcello Leoni, Vijay Kumar… and I’ve had the privilege of meeting other incredible teachers through workshops and visits to their Shalas, including Asta Caplan, John Scott, Gabriele Severini, Prem Carlisi, Manju Jois, Lucas Carvalho and Harmony Slater.

Founder of Ashtanga Spirit Munich
I often think back to the days when I was running Mysore Munich school of ashtanga yoga. It was more than just a mysore class, it became a whole community that were bound by the love for self study. We were all very close and spent much time sharing our laughter in neighborhood coffee shops and spent much time out in the beautiful Bavarian outdoors together.
We all shared the same dream that one day we would open an independent traditional ashtanga shala. It fills my heart with so much joy to see this community now known as Ashtanga Spirit Munich achieving this dream and flying with it further than our dreams back then could even imagine. Namaste Asta Caplan. Munich deserves to have an amazing teacher such as yourself.

Level 2 Authorized Asthanga Yoga Teacher, ASM co-ordinator
I discovered Ashtanga Yoga in 1998 while still in training as a professional ballet dancer and I have been a dedicated practitioner ever since. In the year 2012 I received level 2 authorization to teach the method from Sharath Jois – grandson of Pattabhi Jois, the founder of Ashtanga yoga.
Over the years I’ve have studied Ashtanga yoga under Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Sharath Jois, Manju Jois, Eddie Stern, Tim Miller, Mark and Joanne Darby, Rolf Naujokat, Lino Miele, Philippa Asher and Louise Ellis among other experienced and respected teachers. I completed teacher training with Sharath Jois in Mysore 2014. In 2015 I attended a 3rd Series teacher training with Tim Miller in California. In 2017 I completed a teacher’s course with David Swenson.
Since 2015 I have been in charge of teaching a traditional Mysore-style Ashtanga yoga program according to the tradition of Pattabhi Jois. Since 2019 I have been the main teacher and owner of Ashtanga Spirit Munich shala.
I believe a yoga shala should be an inclusive safe space for self discovery.
In my teaching I aim to give the student the full perspective to the practice of Ashtanga yoga while building stepping stones for each student to build their own individual and sustainable practice. My goal is to work through compassion, accessibility, depth and practicality. I believe this to be a way for students to deepen their practice and achieve greater physical and mental well-being.
In my opinion and experience a teacher’s own personal practice is an important source of inspiration and sets an example for their students of steady dedication and openness to learn. I wish to make an example of the transformative power of Ashtanga Yoga through my own actions, and perhaps some of my passion for the practice is contagious. I wish continue to inspire and motivate students of all levels, backgrounds and ages to experience the profound impact that Ashtanga Yoga can have on one’s life.
